CSR at MODART Sri Lanka
Empowering Communities Through Design
At MODART International, we believe in the transformative power of fashion to create meaningful change. Our CSR initiatives are designed to leverage the creativity and skills of our students and faculty to address societal needs and uplift communities. One such impactful collaboration is with Jataa.lk , a turban brand founded by former Mrs. World and social entrepreneur Caroline Jurie.
Project Spotlight: Turbans of Hope for Apeksha Cancer Hospital
MODART International is proud to partner with Jataa.lk to design a special collection of turbans and headscarves for patients undergoing treatment at Apeksha Cancer Hospital in Maharagama, Sri Lanka. This initiative was spearheaded by Caroline Jurie and Dr. Mihiri Wickramaratne, whose vision and leadership have made this project a reality.
The Purpose Behind the Project
Hair loss is a common side effect of cancer treatments, and it can deeply affect a patient’s self-esteem and confidence. Through this project, we aim to:
- Provide comfort and dignity to patients experiencing hair loss.
- Promote the normalization of turbans and headscarves in society, reducing stigma and empowering patients to live freely without standing out.
- Support the emotional well-being of patients as they bravely fight their battles.
The Creative Process
Our talented student designers embraced this meaningful challenge with passion and empathy. They explored innovative designs that blend functionality, style, and cultural sensitivity. Each turban and headscarf in the collection was crafted to ensure comfort while reflecting the unique personality of its wearer.
In addition to designing, our students also demonstrated how to wear these turbans with grace and confidence, further empowering patients to embrace their new look during their journey.

This initiative with JATAA has been a resounding success, touching the lives of many patients at Apeksha Cancer Hospital. All participating MODART students were awarded certificates of appreciation for their dedication and efforts. Their work not only brought joy and comfort to the patients but also inspired the broader community to embrace diversity and inclusivity.

Why This Matters?
Fashion is more than just aesthetics—it’s about connection, expression, and empowerment. Through this collaboration, MODART reaffirms its commitment to using design as a tool for positive social impact. By supporting cancer patients and normalizing the use of turbans, we strive to create a world where everyone feels confident and accepted, regardless of their circumstances.
